A wiring diagram is a simplified conventional pictorial representation of an electrical circuit. It shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes, and the power and signal connections between the devices.
3 Way Switch Wiring. Traveler wires are interchangeable on each switch. The two hot wires of three wire cable connect to a pair of brass colored traveler terminals on each switch. Then a 4 wire cable going between the two 3 way switches and then a 3 wire cable going from the switches to the load.
Then a 4 wire cable going between the two 3 way switches and then a 3 wire cable going from the switches to the load. Connect the wire marked common to the black or dark colored screw. A 3 wire nm connects the traveler terminals of the first and second 3 way switch together. Connect the ground wire to the green screw.
In this diagram the incoming hot wire attaches to the first switch s common dark colored terminal.
